About
Art has always intrigued me and when I started painting it became a tool and a getaway. It is the one thing I can do that has me fully engaged and focused on it. It helps me think but also forget about strenuous things for the time being. I have always been creative in various ways, but painting is where I am experimentally creative. Its the process more than the outcome that makes it so enjoyable to me. For that reason, I prefer to create my art for others rather than myself because in doing so I can paint subjects at their request that teach me new ways to be creative.

My Process
With each painting, I sketch out the basic idea of the subject with watercolor pencils so that they don’t smear when I paint over it. Then I paint a thin oil layer called a velatura with whatever color fits best for that specific painting. I then let the painting sit for a day or two. After that time passes I go in with white oil paint and start on the highlights. I gradually add darker colors to structure the painting. I prefer a striking contrast in my paintings, so to add depth I mix rich purples and blues with black paint and use that for the dark parts of each painting. I add small details and pops of color last to make the painting more intricate. Then, I sign Lillie Turner.
